Happy New Year to all of our readers and followers. If you had a break, we hope you made the most of it: 2024 is set to be a roller-coaster of a ride for alternative proteins and we'll be here covering every twist and turn.

And it's got off to a flying start with an important regulatory announcement, with the FDA reportedly approving non-animal-based dairy proteins from an Israeli food tech, which in the process becomes just the third such company to receive this green light.

Meanwhile, research into farmers' attitudes towards cultured meat has reported the views of UK farmers about this potentially disruptive technology. While there have been many academic papers about the opportunities for cultured meat, very little work has been undertaken to ask how it might affect farming. Interesting reading...

And as it's Veganuary, a new study by the Office of Health Economics is very timely and shows that with 100% adoption of plant-based diets in England, the total healthcare cost savings for the National Health Service could be around £6.7 billion (US$8.5 billion), which could free up billions of pounds of funding to invest back into England’s hospitals and services.
